1. What did you find most challenging about recreating your chosen video and why? (remember to think about storyboarding, props, actors, filming, editing, finance)
As a group we felt that the most challenging part of recreating this video was finding the suitable actors and instruments for the video. Also it made our group aware of the roles that take place when filming a video (director etc). We are a group of three so we did find it difficult as some of us had to take part in the video and the others in the group had to adopt multiple roles. So maybe having a bigger group would be better to complete a music video.
2. What problems did you face whilst filming? (consider the logistics, could you get everyone together to film, did you have rehearsal time, were you able to frame your shots effectively, could you convincingly play/mime?)
When we were filming we faced the problems of everyone getting together to film so we had to film certain parts with the people we had and then film the other parts when everyone was all together. Some shots were harder then others to accomplish, also the knowing of how to play the instruments correctly to make the video look overall more realistic and this shows through with the drummer compared to the guitarists.
3. How did you overcome these problems? (did you alter shots/props, solve lighting issues etc?)
Was accessing a guitar strap(s) this was a part in the video required and also made it hard for the actors to play the instruments. Also we had to use a female for the male lead role and one the guitarists was also female when it should of been male. We did our best to copy the style of the artists.
4. Which problems could you not overcome? (were some instruments harder than others to source, could you recreate the look of an artist, could you dress the set, were some shots impossible to emulate?
We found the problems we didn't overcome were sourcing certain instruments and getting them to the studio and finding a suitable time for everyone to come together to film. Also editing is another thing we need to improve on as this effects in the end the whole outcome and success of the video.
1) Pre Production (storyboarding, prop lists etc)
In pre production for the video we selected the video that we could recreate using the white room. We chose Awkward by San Cisco, we had to consider as there was only three of us in a group who else was going to featured in our video. We then spent a few lessons creating the storyboard writing down the length of each shot, lyrics and props required.
2) Production (filming etc)
For production between us we looked at when we all had free lessons and when we had media to be able to film. We spent half a lesson setting up the room, collecting equipment (camera, tripod, instruments and setting up lighting). We had assistance of people playing the music in the background, when I was filming. As we could not get a drum kit to the white room we had to improvise and I went round a friends who had a drum kit and filmed.
3) Post production (editing footage etc)
For me I found this stage the easiest and the best part of the stages. It did take 3-5 lessons editing as we had filmed it in small shots and certain sections were missed out. So Emily placed the music and got it to get to sync with the footage. Some shots were blurry/wrong or wrong lyrics etc so these had to be deleted, after listening to the song over and over to make sure the music was in sync.
